Back in the Duathlon game
After break it is time to get back in the Duathlon game - next up will be Middlesbrough Charity Duathlon [EntryLive] - it was held last year again as a charity event, short fun fast 3k run, 15k bike and 3k run. A great introduction to multi-sport and what makes this such fun is the entire bike is 15 laps around the British Cycling 'Middlesbrough Cycling Circuit'.

95k weekend
One week after the Marathon of the North, it is time to get active again.
30k and 65k on the bike this weekend is just the start I needed.
The week ahead I will have plenty time to get the kilometres in on the bike and run, as I've a weeks annual leave and will be away with daily access to a gym, pool, and sauna.
Cannot wait

26.2 Miles
26.2 miles is a long way to run, marathons needs to be respected. The first Sunderland Marathon of the North was a twisty, with many evil little inclines to zap the energy from your legs.
The first 30km was a breeze, then at around 32km it was becoming hard work as the series of inclines started to take its effect. Heading into the last 8km the wheels came off, that last out and back along cool breezy sea front was one of the toughest 8k's.
4:04:43 with a PB I crossed the line, a 13 minute improvement, but I came away with disappointment that a time close to 3:45 was within my sights if not for the last 8k meltdown.
"I am not going to run-enter another marathon in true Steve Redgrave style I uttered at the end"

Forty (40)
Reaching forty I decided it would be a more of challenging year, originally I'd only planned the 'Spring Ballbuster Duathlon' as being that tough event, along with the usual things I do. Well things progress and before you know it I've added a marathon and cycle sportive
28/10/12 Woodhorn Museum Duathlon Run 6km, Bike 24km, Run 3km
07/10/12 Marie Curie Cancer Care Etape Pennines 2012 Bike
78.7 miles
21/07/12 Middlesborough Charity Duathlon Run 3km, Bike 15km, Run 3km
21/07/12 Middlesborough Charity Duathlon Run 3km, Bike 15km, Run 3km
06/05/12 Marathon of the North Run 26.2 miles
09/04/12 Morpeth Duathlon Run 5km, Bike 33km, Run 5km
25/03/12 Stokesley Spring Duathlon Bike 30km, Run 10km
03/03/12 Spring Ballbuster Duathlon Run 8 miles, Bike 24 miles, Run 8 miles

Already for when I get to 41 I've got one eye on something bigger.

Fuel
The marathon is the distance that you have to respect, and does take planning, for this marathon I have taken a different approach with the longest run being only 16 miles as part of the Ballbuster Duathlon, a few13 milers and plenty long hard cycle rides.
with only 2 days to go, I feel ready, the training is in the bank, the chosen race fuel is prepared, I know what be wearing on the day, for hot, cold, wet, or dry conditions.
Bring it on...

Marathon in one week
The training miles are in the bank, so this time next week will it all be done and dusted?; or will I still be out there on the quest to finish a 26 mile marathon.
We'll only know next week !

Train Smart
It amazes me how many times I hear people say I'll eat this and do some extra training to burn it off to compensate. No you eat to train not train to eat.
The sun is out you decide to do a bit extra. No don't decide because it is sunny you are going to run further
Do the professionals like Paula Radcliffe train this way I think not
